Handcrafted!

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

You know, I saw this one label once that confused me nearly to death.В  You’re all lucky that I’m still standing here alive today!В  The label was on a juice container when the “health craze” really started to break out.В  The bottle said very boldly and obviously “100% Juice!” across the front of the package about as big as you can get, in fact I noticed it from across a couple of aisles… but I thought it was odd because it was made by like Sunny Delight or one of the other well known faux juice producers.В  I was intrigued that this company would actually make a juice product that I had to see for myself… especially since in a clear bottle it didn’t really look like “juice” but more like a juice colored cool-aid mix.В  Upon closer inspection they had in much smaller text under the 100% Juice! label that said “From concentrate”В  alright… that sort of explains the odd look of it… and it’s really hard to find anything that’s not from concentrate anymore, so I was forgiving them… until I spotted in minuscule almost illegible text the words under that “With other ingredients”В  Now… don’t get me wrong, but doesn’t 100% mean 100%?В  How can it even be legal for this company to advertise that they have 100% juice if it’s from concentrate, with added ingredients?В  Don’t the added ingredients take up some percentage?В  I mean if it was like .5% other ingredients fine, but reading the ingredients label the reconstituted juice wasn’t even the first item on the list!В  Which means that it can’t even be 50% juice, and I’d say you were lucky if it were…

I’ve been seeing the same kind of propaganda with handmade items any more too.В  Many of the items I see sold as handmade or handcrafted should have a little label that goes along with them that explains that they were handmade by a person running a keyboard that input information to a computer that controlled a robotic arm that assembled pieces of the product.В  It just makes me mad to see stuff like that, you know that there are people who fall for it too!В  If they didn’t the companies would have no reason to lie like that.В  Of course it still doesn’t really cut into my market being that I like to think that the people who are looking for my jewelry items, and purchase from me are actually looking for quality products, having some understanding of how to decipher the difference… I guess I could say that mostly I just feel bad for the fools who get tricked by such blatant lies.

Handmade Jewelry

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

And the weekend aproaches!В  I’m so eager to get back to the St. Louis Ren. Faire too!В  As I stated in the last entry I won’t be running my handmade jewelry booth out there this year, but I will most definitely be there. I would like to be running my jewelry booth, but it’s just not possible right now unfortunately.В  For next year I should (fingers crossed) be running the Young Artisan’s Guild where I may have my handmade jewelry booth, or if not at least be out there running it.В  If not a booth in the young artisan’s guild I will try to get more stuff made up so I can put up my own booth and have someone run that while I keep the young artisan’s section running.В  It shouldn’t be a problem for me to have a booth within the young artisan’s section since they’re kind of wondering how they’re going to get some other young people out there anyways at this point… I have a few ideas, but if you guys got anything please drop me a line!

Chainmail Jewelry

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Haha, so I’ve been out at the St. Louis Ren. Faire last weekend, and several weekends to come, just to be out there because I love the people more than anything.В  Well, last weekend I was talking to someone I met out there last year who was with a friend of hers.В  We started talking about why I wasn’t running my chainmail jewelry booth this year, which has much to do with the neglect I’ve offered Archmaille Designs in the past few months thanks to working for MTV.В  She was like “Oh my goodness I’m so sorry!” when I said I hadn’t touched my chainmail jewelry stuff in a matter of months… I kind of brushed it off a little bit thinking it was okay… but now, when I got back into the real world I find it terribly difficult to focus on any of my projects online!В  I only wish I could do chainmail work full time!В  Or anything that keeps me in the Ren. Faire world more often.

Handmade jewelry for children is ideal for your little angel as mass-produced child jewellery is common and ubiquitous – unsuitable to represent a very special person.

What is the perfect child’s jewelry gift for your precious?

With what children jewellery will you give your princesses to shower your love and make them happy?

We design jewelry for children based on the following values and principles. Are they what you are looking for?

Child Jewellery That Grows

Special consideration has to be given to size expansibility

Children grow rapidly and child jewelery should grow with them.

Rather daunting. You can’t feed jewelry to make them fatter or longer.

Somehow, we have to think of ways to introduce size adjustability and length extendibility.

The designs should be uncomplicated

Sophistication and intricacies are more sensible in adult jewelry.

Basic geometric and association with everyday objects should be more widely featured in children jewelery.

Favourite Colours

It will be great if the colour theme is uniform and stands out. That will make it easy for you to choose – according to your child’s favourite colour. Delight and acceptance by your dear little one is almost guaranteed.

They should be brightly coloured

Children and adults interpret colours differently. Children’s preferences on colours tend to skew towards the bright and cheery.

Some should be sweet

Isn’t that how she is? Sweet – the special one the jewelry is intended for?

It’s instinctive, isn’t it? To get something sweet for the sweet special one? And sweetly she shall smile, when you put it on for her.

Prices should be kept low

Children appreciate the visual and sensual impact of jewelry but not its price tag.

Jewelry tends to get lost more frequently with children than adults. Using expensive materials is less important with jewelry for children.

Keeping price low is practical and facilitates replacements.

Hard-wearing

Children may engage in more vigorous activities or tend to be less gentle with jewelry.

Although a modest price is preferred, it is desirable for the jewelry to provide exceptional quality relative to its price. Specifically, material used should be as hard-wearing as possible.

Our own values

Handmade child jewelry from Agalil are not mass produced products. We craft these jewelry with our own hands. The young lady who wears them may not fully appreciate but we will always insist on the core values of handcrafted jewelry:
uniqueness

individuality

soul

love
